On Raglan Roan - Patrick Kavanagh
Poetry in Porcelain - Bespoke Porcelain Art
'On Raglan Road' by Patrick Kavanagh - Renowned Irish Poet
First published as a poem by Patrick Kavanagh in 1946. The poem was then famously put to music when Kavanagh met Luke Kelly of the well known Irish band The Dubliners and requested them to sing it. The song, has since been sung by Ed Sheeran, Van Morrison, Sinead O Connor, Mark Knopfler and Roger Daltrey among others.
This poem tells the story of how Kavanagh entered into a love affair against his better judgement, with a girl he meets by chance. His rational mind sees the threat immediately, but the rational is cast aside. The enormity of the abandonment is all the greater because Kavanagh fully understands his recklessness but cannot stop himself.
Materials - Porcelain
Process - Raw Porcelain is rolled to create the tile, each letter is hand imprinted into the clay, which is then fired twice in the potter's kiln at 1230 degrees celsius, making it solid to withstand all elements. The art tile is then mounted onto a white wooden frame (30cm x 35cm approx) , with any inscription you would like written under the tile, otherwise this will be left blank
