As an Irish maker in 2020, I was simply blown away by the response of gifting by the Irish consumer to loved ones all over the world. Last year was unprecedented on many levels, both professionally and personally, especially after having had a lockdown baby in April.
While humanity experienced unknown uncertainty, the emotions I felt from the words that were being immortalised in Porcelain were overwhelming, witnessing the hope that people still held onto dearly, and gifted so lovingly. Sending hope felt like the only way out of it, and this was evident in what I was creating. ‘Words in Porcelain’ provided the much needed ‘madelocal’ hope from Ireland, to loved ones worldwide.
The best seller of 2020, was the apt and poignant words from Seamus Heaney:
“If we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere”
